Last night, as a big reward, we took Isaac to Barnes and Noble (the good one-not the one of story hour infamy..) so he could play on the train table and pick out a few new books.
When the time came to pick out books, I had him go over to the picture book section, the ones on the spinning racks, and told him he could pick out a few. Well, he grabs Wall E (Can’t wait to see that movie! Go Pixar!) and then to my horror, grabs a copy of a BATMAN book with the new, derainged looking Joker on the cover and says “I want this one!”
Yeah, right. Nope. Not happening.
Then, he grabs a book with SPIDER MAN in the black suit on the cover…”Look! It’s Spider Man!”
Nope. not happening there either.
We ended up with Charlie and Lola and Little Einsteins. Those are acceptable choices.
But what I don’t understand here is how the book companies and subsequently the book stores can market these age innapropriate things to children.
Why can’t we keep them young for longer? Why do we have to age them and expose them to violence at an early age?
Argh.
